Academic Support Programs

The Veterans Center is here to support you in your pursuit of academic excellence. Our programs and services are available to Veterans, military personnel and their families. For more information about these resources or to begin utilizing these services please email

Academic Coaching — Meet with our Veteran/military-specific academic coach! Sam, our academic coach, is available to meet one-on-one to help students establish effective learning and study skills. Academic coaching is a wonderful resource that provides structure and accountability to your university experience. Whether you’re being proactive or need to get back on track, coaching can help!

Academic Recovery Planning — Students who are encountering academic difficulties are encouraged to meet with our staff to identify obstacles to academic success, problem-solve, and create an action plan to succeed at Iowa State. This service is available to all military-affiliated students, and may be required for those students who are on academic warning and probation.

Educational Workshops — Join us for snacks and coffee while we learn more about topics, including study skills, time management, and exam prep. Please refer to our schedule of events for upcoming educational workshops:

Tutor Funding Available — We never want finances to get in the way of your academic success. If you would like to use the Academic Success Center’s tutoring services, but you are not in a financial position to pay for tutoring, the Veterans Center can help cover that cost. Learn more here.
